Solar PV & Battery Storage for an Aberdeen Home

With continued uncertainty around energy prices, Garry began looking at ways to reduce his household's reliance on grid electricity and protect against potential future increases in energy costs.

For an investment of this size, choosing the right installer was particularly important. Garry wanted to work with an established local company rather than a national provider, while the appearance of the finished installation was also a key consideration.

Having researched the market and obtained quotes from several companies, Garry was looking for a solar PV and battery storage solution that would reduce his reliance on grid electricity and support the broader energy needs of his home, including EV charging.

Following discussions with Garry about his household energy requirements, ORKA designed a combined solar PV and battery storage system.

The installation included 14 Trina 445W solar panels, a 5kW SolaX hybrid inverter and 11.6kWh of SolaX battery storage, allowing more of the electricity generated by the solar panels to be stored for use within the home rather than relying on electricity from the grid when solar generation is lower.

With EV charging already part of the household's electricity demand, the solar and battery system also provides an opportunity for more of that energy requirement to be met using electricity generated at home.

Throughout the process, the ORKA team kept Garry updated on progress and timescales, with Duncan explaining the system and answering questions in straightforward language.

The benefits of the new system were apparent immediately.

Since the installation was completed, Garry reported that the household had not needed to pay for electricity from the grid, with the combination of solar generation and battery storage meeting their electricity requirements during this initial period.

While seasonal changes mean some grid electricity is expected to be required during periods of lower solar generation, Garry has been delighted with the performance of the system so far.
