Workplace EV Charging Grant Confirmed Until March 2026 - What Businesses Need to Know

The UK Government has confirmed that the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) will remain open until 31 March 2026, giving businesses a clear (but time-limited) opportunity to reduce the cost of installing EV charging at their premises.

For organisations planning fleet electrification, staff charging, or future-proofing their sites, this confirmation removes uncertainty, but it also puts a clear deadline on decision-making.

What the Workplace Charging Scheme offers

Under the Workplace Charging Scheme, eligible businesses can access:

  • Up to £350 per charge point
  • Up to 75% of installation costs covered
  • Maximum of 40 sockets per applicant
  • Support for both staff and fleet charging

The scheme applies across the UK and must be delivered by an OZEV-authorised installer.

Why this matters now

While EV charging grants have existed for several years, what’s changed is certainty.

Funding has now been explicitly confirmed until March 2026, creating a defined window for organisations that have been:

  • “thinking about it”
  • waiting for budgets to align
  • or unsure whether support would still be available

After March 2026, there is no guarantee the scheme will continue in its current form.

Duncan Booth, Director at ORKA Solutions, comments:

“For many businesses, the challenge isn’t whether EV charging makes sense — it’s timing.

This confirmation gives organisations clarity, but it also puts a deadline on action. If EV charging is part of your medium-term plans, this is the window where the financial case is strongest.”

What businesses should be considering now

Rather than rushing installations, organisations should be asking:

  • How many chargers will we realistically need over the next 3–5 years?
  • Do we need to future-proof cabling and capacity?
  • How does EV charging fit alongside wider energy decisions, such as solar or battery storage?

Taking a joined-up approach now avoids retrofits later.

Next steps

Businesses considering workplace EV charging should:

  • Confirm eligibility under the Workplace Charging Scheme
  • Allow time for site assessment and design
  • Plan installations well ahead of the March 2026 deadline
